In my Avatar collection, I’m being more personal. While I have always been interested in fantasy, this collection shows more of my everyday life and interests.
In my early years as a professional artist, I used to love getting dressed up, completely alone in my studio, and then painting. It made me feel a certain way. Lately I have been getting back in to dressing up, both in real life and digitally.
It's funny to say, but I think it has a lot to do with the green floral apron my mom gave me. When I started wearing it while I worked, I could wear pretty dresses again without worrying about getting them painty. (I'm actually very tidy when I paint) But my other favorite part about wearing aprons is the pockets.
Before starting this series, I was very inspired by the artist John Singer Sargent. I dressed up a lovely model in my clothing and jewelry, styled and posed her with objects and photographed her for reference. Some of the pieces in this collection are of my day with her. Included are objects, clothing and jewelry that all hold personal significance for me.
Other pieces in this collection are inspired by my video game character named Charmira. I also dressed up, styled and posed her, and even created the garden and environment around her, which I'll share with you at some point :)
